Art Lebedev doesn’t work with those whose views conflict with his owns

by Marina

Imagine you’d say this to your potential clients:

As a matter of principle, we don’t work with private persons, political parties, religious organizations, jerk-offs, and those whose views conflict with ours.

We work the way we believe is right. We don’t give a shit about corporate values all together.

“Fuck The Rain” Umbrella, Art Lebedev

Well, that’s exactly what Art (Artemy) Lebedev posted on his website

His studio is one of the best and well-known Design Studios in Russia. His impressive client list ranges from Microsoft, IKEA, Samsung and Nokia to Russian search engine Yandex and Alfa Bank.

This makes me wonder how he is able to attract those clients with such bold statements. Is it because of his uncompromising views, he is able to produce quality designs, that ultimately, land him those big clients and numerous awards?

Every designer at some point in their career will face the dilemma of going along with the client and producing mediocre designs, that they know they’ll never be able to add to their portfolio, or telling them to f* off and do the job the way they think is right.

Art Lebedev clearly made his choice and it seems like it’s working well for him.
